22 May 2021 – Zwartkops

Grange workwear CLUBMANS could not have asked for a more beautiful day of racing at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria.

A crisp and cool morning saw Keagan Pottas on pole in his Turbo Honda CRX with a qualifying time of 1.06.303, George Economides in his Wealth Avenue Monster Turbo Golf in 2nd place with a 1.07.099 and Amos Cockeram in his Wanted Racing Chassis Opel Tigra with a time of 1.08.775 in 3rd.

Class B Fred Kruger in his JDM Tuning Honda CRX, qualified on a 1.10.776, Dirk Lawrence JDM Tuning / AZOIC Panel beaters Honda Ballade and Jordan Larsson in his Enviro Aore / Medley House Tata and Phillip Emmenis Uniglide / Performance Lubricants Africa M3 was so close for the remainder of the top positions in class B on 1.11 and just the milliseconds splitting them.

Wayne Lebotschy in his Shield VW and Mariaan Emmenis Uniglide / Performance Lubricants Africa took top honours in their respective classes with the two Honda’s of Rodney Kruis Real Pro Auto and Stuart Bird JDM Tuning / 5 Star Tool Gauge in their Honda Ballades in the 1.18’s .

In Race 1 Keagan Pottas and Fred Kruger took class A and B respectively from their fellow competitors with Mike Mac Gregor Grange Workwear joined Rodney Kruis and Steward Bird in Class D that went to the wire with Rodney winning from a very hard charging Stuart Bird and Mike Mac Gregror  who started at the back of the field because he was unable to qualify.

In Race 2 saw an oil drenched circuit up at turn 5 and when George braked unbelievably late and Keagan tried to do the same but went flying off into the gravel. He was probably frustrated from his spin on the warm up lap. Keagan continued racing from the back of the grid and finally got up to 10th overall with Amos Cockerham JNR taking a maiden class A win with George in a hard charging second place. George in his Turbo Golf finally won overall in Class A with Amos second and Keagan third.

Dirk Lawrence had a dismal 2nd heat with an alternator wire that came off during the race and he could not finish. Fred won class B from Jordan and Phillip.

Wayne and Mariaan was a bit lonely in their respective classes but a win on the day is always a great day at the circuit.

Class D was remarkably busy and when the flag dropped, it was Stuart form Mike and Rodney. Overall, in class was Stuart Rodney and Mike. Well done you guys!

Our next race with be back at Zwartkops on the 17th of July 2021 –  Hopefully by then spectators are able to join us on the day. We will keep you posted.
